Out of heart break he brings rejoicing! TWO BREWER BOYS!

We have been a little absent from the blog these past few days, and would like to apologize for that. It is hard to even begin to write this post and explain what has happened. I think the best way to do it is just to allow ourselves to be vulnerable and explain the whole story.

As you know, we have been in the process of adopting a little boy from the DRC. This week we received some devastating news that we would not be able to adopt the little boy that we had accepted a referral for. He is in what they call a conflict zone, and as such the US embassy has said that they cannot go into where he is at in order to confirm his orphan status. Unfortunately without this he cannot be issued a visa to enter the US. So, the DRC would recognize the adoption, but the US would not.

This was gut wrenching, heartbreaking news, and we are still grieving the loss of this little boy. For us, he was already ours. But, we have been offered no hope of being able to bring him home. The conflict in this area has been ongoing for the last ten years, and there does not seem to be an end in sight.

Not only are we heartbroken for ourselves, we are heartbroken for this little boy that may never know the love of an early mother and father. We are not done advocating for him or the others in his orphanage, but at this time we also realize that the other children there do not need a home any less than he does. I so hope that does not seem harsh, we are crushed to not be able to bring him home, and know that God is strengthening us and carrying us through this time. Without him we would be nothing!

So, what's next you ask? Well...with the loss of this referral we were presented with the referral of two little boys, yes you read right... TWO!

They are a very young 2 year old (Mr. H), and a 5 year old (Mr. L). As with our other referral we cannot share their pictures or details yet, but we are moving forward in excitement unless God closes the door.

I'm sure you are now wondering, "doesn't adopting a second child cost more?" why yes it does! We have been offered some assistance by our agency to offset the cost of the second adoption since Mr. L is 5. This helps greatly! However, we do need to raise an additional $14,000.00. Now more than ever we could use your prayers and support!

Please pray:
  • That God would continue to comfort our family through this time of loss. Especially our girls who are grieving and do not understand
  • For Mr. S (our previous referral) to be sheltered from all of this, we are not sure how much he knew of us, but our prayer is that his precious two year old mind would not suffer the loss of us. He has an amazing woman acting as his caregiver, please pray for her as she deals with the news that several of the children in her care will now not be leaving.
We know that God is a Father to the fatherless, and that he sets the lonely in families, and we praise him for that knowledge!

Psalm 68[a]
For the director of music. Of David. A psalm. A song.

1 May God arise, may his enemies be scattered;
may his foes flee before him.
2 May you blow them away like smoke—
as wax melts before the fire,
may the wicked perish before God.
3 But may the righteous be glad
and rejoice before God;
may they be happy and joyful.
4 Sing to God, sing in praise of his name,
extol him who rides on the clouds[b];
rejoice before him—his name is the Lord.
5 A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows,
is God in his holy dwelling.
6 God sets the lonely in families,[c]
he leads out the prisoners with singing;

but the rebellious live in a sun-scorched land.

Please also pray:

  • For these two little boys that we are now looking to adopt, our desire is that they would not know about us until the adoption is at least final there in the DRC. Please pray that God would begin to prepare their hearts to be a part of our family.
  • For the additional funds necessary, as well as those still outstanding that it will take to bring our boys home. Because the situation has changed significantly, so has the timeline. It is expected that this process would move much faster than it would have with Mr. S.  These two new little boys are in the same orphanage, and it is literally minutes from the US embassy!
As always we covet, and appreciate your prayers and support!
